INTENDED USE
The PCT/IL-6 (Procalcitonin/Interleukin 6) Detection Kit (Fluorescence Immunochromatography) is used for vitro quantitative determination of PCT/IL-6 (Procalcitonin/Interleukin 6) in human serum and plasma. For professional in vitro diagnostic use only.
CLINICAL SIGNIFICANCE
PCT (Procalcitonin) is a hormone composed of 116 amino acids with a molecular weight of about 12.7kD. PCT is expressed by neuroendocrine cells, including C cells in thyroid, lung, and pancreatic tissues, and is broken down by enzyme digestion into (immature) calcitonin, carboxy-terminal peptide, and amino-terminal peptide. Only a small amount of PCT is found in the blood of healthy people. PCT increases significantly after bacterial infection. So it can be used as adjunctive diagnosis of diseases such as bacterial infections.
IL-6 (Interleukin-6) is a mediator of the immune system and has many biological functions. Elevated serum or plasma levels of interleukin-6 can occur in sepsis, autoimmune disease, lymphoma, acquired immune deficiency syndrome (AIDS), alcoholic liver disease, and infection, or transplant rejection. So it can be used as an auxiliary diagnosis for detecting the immune status and inflammatory response of the human body.
PCT and IL-6 are the detection indicators of acute inflammation. Due to their own characteristics, the combined detection of these two indicators in the clinical application process can play different roles, and has a positive effect on assisting disease diagnosis and judging disease progression. The combined detection of PCT and IL-6 can evaluate the severity of bacterial infection, judge the prognosis of the disease, evaluate the effect of antibiotic use and guide clinical diagnosis and treatment.
