INTENDED USE
The PGI/II (Pepsinogen I&II) Detection Kit (Fluorescence Immunochromatography) is used for the quantitative determination of PGI/II in human serum and plasma in vitro. For professional in vitro diagnostic use only, not for personal use.
CLINICAL SIGNIFICANCE
Pepsinogen (PG) is an inactive precursor of pepsin, and is often divided into two subtypes, PGI and PGII, according to its different immune and biochemical properties. PGI is mainly secreted by chief cells of gastric glands and cervical mucous cells; PGII is mainly secreted by whole gastric glands and Brunner's glands in the proximal duodenum. The lesions and severity of different parts of gastric mucosa, including gastric mucosal atrophy, ulcer erosion and malignant transformation were related to the changes of serum PGI content and the ratio of PG I/PGII. When atrophic gastritis occurs, the number of glands and chief cells decreases and is replaced by pyloric glands or intestinal metaplasia, resulting in a decrease in the secretion of PG1, while the content of PGII remains stable, so the ratio of PG1/PGII decreases. Decreased PGI/PGII ratio is a sign of atrophic gastritis, which is the main precancerous lesion of gastric cancer, but cannot be used as a detection index for gastric cancer.
