INTENDED USE
This Product is intended to be used by professionals to quantitative determination of AFP in human serum, plasma in vitro.
CLINICAL SIGNIFICANCE
AFP (Alpha-Fetoprotein) is an albumin-like glycoprotein with a molecular weight of 70000 daltons. AFP levels are elevated in 70-95% of patients with primary hepatocellular carcinoma. AFP levels were higher in patients with advanced non-spermatogonial embryonic cell tumor. Human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) and AFP are important indicators of survival in patients with advanced non-spermatogonial embryonic cell tumor. Elevated AFP levels are seen primarily in primary hepatocellular carcinoma. AFP levels may be slightly elevated during compensatory regeneration of liver tissue in alcoholic cirrhosis, acute viral hepatitis, and HBsAg carriers. Elevated AFP levels in serum and amniotic fluid of pregnant mothers may indicate spina bifida, anencephaly, esophageal atresia, or multiple pregnancy.
