CLINICAL SIGNIFICANCE
CEA (Carcino-embryonic Antigen) is a monomer glycoprotein with a molecular weight of about 180000 daltons. CEA is similar to AFP and belongs to the group of fetal cancer antigens produced in the embryo. CEA mainly comes from fetal stomach, intestine and serum. It is also found in small amounts in the intestines, intestines, pancreas and liver of normal adults. CEA formation is inhibited after birth, so CEA is difficult to detect in the blood of normal adults. Patients with colorectal adenocarcinoma usually have high levels of CEA. CEA determination is mainly used to guide the treatment, management and follow-up of colorectal cancer.
